Mountains Ecuador 2020

We will start our acclimatization in Quito, with the ascent to the Rucu Pichincha 4,700 m. altitude, before heading towards our two main objectives: The Iliniza Norte 5126 m. altitude, beautiful volcano, which offers an alpine environment ... and the majestic Cotopaxi volcano 5897 meters of altitude that dominates the region. We will finish our beautiful adventure with the highest peak in Ecuador, El Chimborazo (6310 m)

Ecuador corresponds to all the wishes of the traveler in relation to food, it is a country rich in varieties of menus, quality restaurants or simply small dining rooms in markets or small towns.

The meals mentioned in the program are included and those that are not mentioned are left to your choice. Your guide and travel companion will indicate interesting places or restaurants, you can also accompany them and assist them in their discovery, if they wish.

We will go up to the Quito cable car that will take us to the beginning of our journey. Ascension from the top 4700 m. Altitude. Accommodation in Machachi near the Ilinizas reserve. L (snack) D

 The Pas Ochoa volcano has an extinct caldera, located southeast of Quito, which today is a wildlife sanctuary. It is part of the National System of Protected Areas within the category Wildlife Refuge with an extension of 500 hectares. The ascent of its summit is interesting and offers a nice view over the valleys near the city of Quito.


Difference in altitude: 800 m - 3h of walking

Departure to Chaupi, a small town located at the entrance of the Iliniza Reserve. Transfer by private vehicle up to 4000 meters and then walk to the refuge at 4700 meters. Night in the refuge. B L D 

 Iliniza is a stratovolcano in Ecuador, located 55 km southwest of Quito. Iliniza, a potentially active volcano, consists of two snow-capped peaks: Iliniza Sur (5.248 m) e Iliniza Norte (5.126 m). Those two summits are two beautiful targets for climbers and are recommended in preparatory ascent for higher peaks such as Cotopaxi  and Chimborazo .

Difference in altitude: 420 m to the summit - 1220 m downhill
6 to 7 h of walking

Ascension to the summit (5126 meters of altitude). Descent to the valley and continuation to Lasso located near the Cotopaxi volcano. B L D

The hike is done on loose rocks and requires a little experience from the participants

Difference in altitude: 300 m - 1 hour of walking

Departure to the Cotopaxi National Park. Transfer by vehicle to 4500 meters of altitude and then on foot to the José Ribas refuge at 4864 meters of altitude. On the glacier, test the equipment and technical level of each participant. Rest.   B L (snack) D 

Located in the Cotopaxi province, 70 km from Quito, the park covers an area of 33,400 hectares and includes camping areas and hiking trails.

Condors, ducks, caracarás, Andean gulls, pigeons and hummingbirds can sometimes be seen above the paramo and the forests. As for mammals, you can see rabbits, white-tailed deer, foxes and weasels ... In addition, Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world. Its summit is covered with eternal snow.

Altitude difference: 1100 m - 8 h walk

At one in the morning we will start the ascent towards the summit with our mountain guide. Return to the refuge at 10am. Return to the Park entrance and continue to the thermal city of Baños. Hotel in Baños.  B  

The volcán Cotopaxi, Second highest summit in Ecuador with 5897 m. It is located south of Quito. It is the highest active volcano in the world and its ascent is a beautiful goal.


 Day 6: BAÑOS
Visit of Baños and its surroundings: waterfall route. Observation of the active Tungurahua volcano if conditions allow. Accommodation in Baños.  B

Baños is a charming summer site, with its thermal waters, located at the gates of the Amazon and on the edge of the Andes. The beauty of the place as well as the hospitality of its inhabitants make   Baños a highly appreciated destination. Nestled in the middle of a green valley, the city, surrounded by forests, waterfalls and at the foot of the active Tungurahua 5016m volcano, offers lush vegetation. 

We are going to visit the impressive , waterfall of the Pailón del Diablo. Next to the Manto de La Novia waterfalls, we will also cross the Pastaza river in Tarabita, a means of transportation for the local people who live near that river surrounded by cliffs. If the weather allows it, we will observe the almost permanent activity of the Tungurahua volcano.

We will drive directly to the Carrel refuge (4800 m.)   Hike to the Whymper refuge (5000 m. Altitude).

After ascension, return to Quito. Hotel in Quito.
